Frequently Asked Questions
Arranging a house clearance can feel like a big task, especially if you've never needed one before. Below are answers to some of the questions we're most often asked by customers across Penzance and West Cornwall.
If you can't find the answer you're looking for, simply call William on 01736689495 and he'll be happy to help.
How much does house clearance cost?
Every property is different, so there isn't a single fixed price. The cost depends on factors such as the size of the property, the volume of furniture and household contents, whether garages, lofts or outbuildings need clearing, access to the property, the time required, and whether valuable items can reduce the cost through auction. William provides a free site visit before giving every customer a fixed, no-obligation quotation.
Do you charge for quotations?
No. All site visits and quotations are completely free, with no obligation to proceed.
Can you give me a quote over the phone?
Sometimes William can give you a rough indication if you describe the property or send photographs. However, an accurate fixed quotation usually requires a site visit so the amount of contents, access and any valuable items can be properly assessed.
Are you fully licensed?
Yes. Penzance House Clearance is operated by a registered waste carrier and carries full public liability insurance. This means your house clearance is carried out legally, responsibly and with complete peace of mind.
What areas do you cover?
We provide house clearance throughout Penzance and West Cornwall, including Penzance, Newlyn, Mousehole, Marazion, Long Rock, Gulval, Heamoor, Madron, Hayle, St Ives, Carbis Bay, Helston, Camborne, and Redruth. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, simply get in touch.
What types of properties do you clear?
We clear almost every type of residential property, including houses, flats, apartments, bungalows, cottages, holiday homes, farmhouses, and rural properties. We also clear garages, lofts, sheds, workshops and outbuildings.
Do you carry out probate house clearances?
Yes. William regularly helps families, executors, solicitors and estate agents with probate house clearances. Every probate clearance is carried out with patience, discretion and respect, helping make a difficult time a little easier.
Can you clear just one room?
Absolutely. Not every customer requires a full house clearance. We're equally happy to clear a single room, a garage, a loft, a shed, a garden, or a workshop. No job is too small.
Do I need to be at the property?
No. Many customers provide access and allow William to complete the clearance while they're elsewhere. Once the work has been finished, you'll be contacted to confirm everything has been completed as agreed.
What happens to the furniture and belongings?
Every property is sorted carefully. Items are separated into belongings to keep, items suitable for auction, charity donations, recycling, and licensed waste disposal. Our aim is always to maximise reuse and minimise landfill wherever possible.
Can valuable items reduce my house clearance costs?
Yes. This is one of the things that makes Penzance House Clearance different. William has extensive experience identifying antiques, collectables, jewellery, artwork and quality furniture that may have auction value. If suitable, these items can be professionally sold, with the proceeds deducted from your house clearance costs.
How quickly can you clear a property?
Many house clearances are completed within a single day. Larger homes or properties with extensive contents may take longer. Timescales are discussed during your quotation so you'll know exactly what to expect.
Do you recycle?
Yes. We're committed to reducing landfill wherever possible. Suitable furniture may be reused or donated, recyclable materials are separated and only waste that cannot be reused is taken to licensed disposal facilities.
Why should I choose Penzance House Clearance?
Customers choose William because they value personal service from start to finish, honest advice, fixed quotations, fully licensed waste disposal, auction expertise that can reduce costs, respectful handling of belongings, local knowledge, reliable appointments, and properties left clean and tidy.
